“Per source: The Blue Jays are talking with free agent 1B/OF Juan Yepez about a contract (presumably MiLB). Yepez, 28 next week, spent last year in Triple-A with the Nationals. Hit .266 with four home runs and a .781 OPS in 28 Venezuelan Winter League games. Solid depth bat.”
Yepez, who can play both first base and the outfield, fits the profile of a low-risk, high-upside depth piece. His ability to move between positions could prove valuable as Toronto manages injuries and lineup flexibility over a long season.
Offensive production adds value
Beyond positional versatility, Yepez brings a proven offensive track record at the major league level. During the 2024 MLB season, he appeared in 62 games and posted six home runs, 26 RBIs, and 15 doubles. He totaled 64 hits while slashing .283/.335/.429, numbers that suggest he can contribute meaningful offense if called upon.
