On May 5th, the Houston Astros have placed Yordan Alvarez on the 10-day injured list. The slugger is reportedly dealing with inflammation in his right hand and even underwent an MRI.

Dana Brown provides major update on Yordan Alvarez

The MRI report showed that Yordan Alvarez was dealing with a muscle strain in his hand. After weeks of trying to heal it on it's own, he faced pitchers trying to get back in the lineup but faced discomfort.

He had gone on Friday to get more images done. Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown has now provided with major update on the imaging as it looks like that the slugger would be without a bat in his hands for a while.

Because all the inflammation and fluid was gone, we were able to see that he has a 60% healed, very small fracture in his hand. He's relieved, because he knows that's it, said Brown.

Not just this, Brown even mentioned that Alvarez has a small fracture in his hand that is healed 60%. Despite his injury, the slugger is happy to know the true nature of the pain.

Right now, we're in the position where we're hoping that he's back in the near future. I think it could be soon because it has started to heal. He's actually feeling better he added.

Dana Brown didn't provide with an exact timeline of his return but the front office feels that his injury is more than halfway healed and he could be returning to the field soon.

Yordan Alvarez not the only slugger to get an injury misdiagnosed

Yordan Alvarez is not the only player who discovered a fracture following a different diagnosis. The same thing had happened with Kyle Tucker during the last season.

Tucker fouled a ball off his shin last year in the month of June. The initial diagnosis was that he had suffered shin contusion but after three months on the IL, new imaging and testing, it was revealed that he had a fractured shin.

The same thing happened with Yordan Alvarez. With all the swelling and inflammation, the doctor missed the fracture. But, soon they were able to see it and change the courser of their plans.

The injury to Yordan Alvarez could be a big one and that depends on how long he stays on the IL. The franchise has won five of their last six games and even hold half-game lead over the Seattle Mariner in the American League West.
