After captivating fans and analysts alike throughout the 2024 season with their remarkable performances, Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani were highlighted at the 2024 MLB Players' Choice Awards. Judge, the New York Yankees superstar, was honored as both Player of the Year and AL Outstanding Player, while Ohtani claimed the title of NL Outstanding Player.

In addition, Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins was recognized as the Marvin Miller Man of the Year and Philanthropist of the Year, awarded for his contributions both on the field and in the community.

This achievement marks Judge's second win in three years for Player of the Year and AL Outstanding Player, having previously earned the accolade in 2022 when he tied the American League record with 62 home runs.

"Congratulations to the 2024 Players Choice Awards winners!

Since 1992, Major Leaguers have recognized the on and off-field achievements of their peers through the Players Choice Awards. To date, in addition to the awards, the MLBPA charitable arm The Players Trust has recognized the outstanding performances of Players Choice Awards winners by contributing more than $4 million to charities around the world on behalf of the Award winners.

These awards are voted on uniquely by the active Major League Player membership," MLBPA wrote on X

Judge's incredible performance

The 32-year-old had a career-best season in 2024, achieving personal highs in batting average (.311), on-base percentage (.458), and slugging percentage (.701). He led MLB in both on-base and slugging percentages, as well as home runs (58) and RBIs (144). According to Baseball Reference's wins above replacement metric, Judge's 10.8 WAR ties with Rogers Hornsby's 1921 season as the 21st-best season in MLB history.

Ohtani on a winning spree

Ohtani won the Outstanding Player award in his league for the third time, becoming the first player in MLB history to achieve a 50-50 season. He had previously won the AL Outstanding Player award in 2021 and 2023 while playing for the Los Angeles Angels. The last AL player not named Ohtani or Judge to earn this recognition was José Abreu, during his MVP season with the Chicago White Sox in 2020.

Chris Sale the star

Atlanta Braves ace Chris Sale was another standout, winning two awards: NL's Best Pitcher and Comeback Player of the Year. After struggling with injuries and making only 31 starts over the last four seasons with the Boston Red Sox, Sale enjoyed a remarkable turnaround in Atlanta. He led MLB with 18 wins and a 2.25 ERA, finishing first in the NL with 225 strikeouts. His 177.2 innings pitched were the most he’s logged since 2017.

Tarik Skubal the finest pitcher

Tarik Skubal made history as well, joining the ranks of Justin Verlander (2011) and Max Scherzer (2013) as the only Detroit Tigers pitchers to be named AL Pitcher of the Year. Skubal had a breakout 2024 season, boasting a 2.39 ERA and striking out 228 batters in 192 innings, helping the Tigers secure a playoff spot for the first time in a decade.
