Caitlin Clark began her WNBA season by creating history. The Indiana Fever guard became the fastest point guard in WNBA history to reach 1,000 career points, hitting the milestone during the team's 2026 season opener against the Dallas Wings on Saturday.
Caitlin Clark creates history in WNBA season opener
Clark achieved the feat in just 54 games, tying for the sixth-fastest mark overall in league history. She reached the milestone with a spinning layup at the end of the third quarter. The basketball star entered the game needing 17 points and delivered with a strong performance, including 18 points by the time she crossed the threshold.
In addition to the scoring mark, she became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach the combination of 1,000 points, 200 rebounds, and 450 assists. The milestone comes after an injury-shortened 2025 season that delayed what many expected to be an even quicker ascent.
The former Iowa superstar has continued to rewrite record books since entering the league, blending elite scoring with playmaking that has drawn record crowds and elevated the WNBA's profile.
While the Fever did not secure the win in their opener, Clark's latest achievement underscores her status as one of the league's premier talents early in her professional career.
