Reflecting on the situation, Allen shared his gratitude, saying, "I was happy. I really mesh well with these guys. It’s just a good group to be around."

Allen’s journey in the NBA has been marked by steady development, and his bond with the Cavaliers has played a significant role in his growth as a player. His positive outlook stems from the strong connection he shares with his teammates, who have been pivotal in his continued success.

Kenny Atkinson's influence on Jarrett Allen's stay

Before joining the Cavaliers, Allen had played under Kenny Atkinson during his time with the Brooklyn Nets. Atkinson, who had a firsthand experience of Allen's potential, advised the Cavaliers to keep him, recognizing the center’s unique skill set.

There was some talk before the season of whether these two bigs can work together, J.A. [Allen] and Evan Mobley, Atkinson shared. We had the discussions. We talked about it. I believed it could work because I knew [Allen’s] skillset. I also knew how important a versatile lineup is in the playoffs. So, me and J.A. talked about it.

This belief in Allen’s ability to adapt to the team’s system and complement Mobley’s play has been vital to the Cavaliers' success this season.

Allen’s impact on the court

Allen’s presence on the floor has been invaluable for the Cavaliers. This season, the 25-year-old is averaging 13.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 0.9 blocks, while shooting an impressive 70.5% from the field.

His contributions have been instrumental in the Cavaliers securing the best record in the NBA at 48-10, positioning the team as genuine title contenders for the first time since the departure of LeBron James.

Embracing the business side of Basketball

While Allen was aware of the trade talks, he understands that the NBA is a business. Reflecting on past experiences, including being part of the trade that sent James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets, Allen said,

I understand the business of all this. I understand that people are going to make moves to try to elevate the team however they feel possible.

Despite being no stranger to trade discussions, Allen has maintained a strong focus on his current team and their goals.

Cavaliers on the path to Championship glory

As the Cavaliers approach a potential championship run, Allen noted the shift in mentality within the locker room.

It’s different. Everybody understands that we’re fighting for something. Everybody’s locking in to another degree, he explained.

Allen also highlighted the leadership of Evan Mobley and the return of Darius Garland, who has bounced back after suffering a broken jaw.

Shout out to Evan. He’s taking a huge step to lead us this in that direction, Allen added.

The Cavaliers are united in their pursuit of a championship, with all players committed to making sacrifices for the greater goal. With a mix of talented players and a focused mindset, the Cavaliers are poised to make a deep playoff run, and Allen is excited to be part of this thrilling journey.
