Suryakumar Yadav has revealed Sanju Samson’s true nature, which he felt just ahead of the T20 World Cup. India’s T20 World Cup-winning captain has spoken warmly about his teammate’s selfless attitude during the tournament, describing a key conversation that left a lasting impression.

Speaking on Aakash Chopra’s YouTube channel, Yadav recalled a moment on the team bus when Samson was struggling for form and faced the prospect of being left out of the side. Yadav told him the situation looked difficult. Samson’s reply was simple and team-focused as he urged his captain to do whatever he felt was right to help India win the World Cup.

Samson assured him he would remain ready and prepare as if he were still in the playing XI. During the aforementioned conversation, Samson said:
“I gained a lot of confidence hearing that. There are people like this too.”
Yadav described the decision to drop Samson earlier as one of his toughest calls, noting that the wicketkeeper-batter’s positive response and continued professionalism stood out. Samson later returned to the side, delivered strong performances in the knockout stages, and played a crucial role as India claimed the title.
Yadav said his respect for Samson only grew after the batter’s contributions, adding that “good things happen to good people.” The comments highlight the selfless culture Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir sought to build in the Indian T20 side, where individual form took a back seat to collective success.
