The 2025-26 NBA season is around the corner with pre-season set to kick off this week. The Los Angeles Lakers are slated to play against the Phoenix Suns at the opener. With all the excitement as the fans look forward to the upcoming season, the pre-season provides a two-week appetizer to the main course of the regular season.
This is also an early look at what to expect in the upcoming regular season. However, the NBA fans shouldn't expect a full-strength lineup because the regular season remains the priority. And hence, Lakers superstar LeBron James won't be playing in the preseason opener against the Suns.
Will LeBron James play in Lakers vs Suns 2025-26 NBA pre-season opener?
According to Dave McMenamin, ESPN's NBA reporter, stated on his social media account that the Lakers forward has been dealing with nerve irritation in his glute, which will prevent him from playing at the opener.
The reporter further revealed that the 17-time NBA Champions will not rush things ahead of the upcoming season. The risk of aggravating even a minor issue might result in jeopardizing a season while the franchise is gearing up for its 18th. This will also be LeBron’s 23rd season in the NBA and this early caution may prove essential.. McMenamin wrote:
“LeBron James was sidelined with nerve irritation in his glute to open training camp as the Lakers are taking an “overly cautious” approach with the 40-year-old star as he opens his record 23rd season.”
JJ Redick’s side is already struggling with a long list of injuries, with veteran guard Marcus Smart dealing with Achilles tendinopathy, while Gabe Vincent remains ruled out due to knee concerns. Additionally, promising rookie Adou Thiero has been sidelined due to an issue which has not been disclosed so far.
