Trae Young’s era with the Atlanta Hawks finally comes to an end as the 27-year-old player was traded to the Washington Wizards after seven-and-a-half seasons. Luka Doncic, who himself was a part of a shocking trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, has reacted to the news.
Young was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018 NBA Draft before being drafted by the Hawks the same day. The trade happened along with a future first-round pick, for the draft rights to Doncic, and joined the Lakers star in a unanimous selection to the 2019 NBA All-Rookie First Team.
Lakers’ Luka Doncic reacts to Trae Young’s blockbuster trade to Wizards
Doncic was asked about the Hawks trading Young to the Wizards via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. The point guard had a very positive and hopeful reaction to the news as he said:
“We got traded for each other.”
Doncic continued:
“Been a lot of talk about me and him. We have a good relationship. I have a lot of respect for him.”
The Lakers star further said:
“So if he's excited for this new journey, I'm excited for him.”
Doncic was part of the surprising trade in the middle of the season, which shocked the whole NBA world. The player, who had played only for the Mavs in the NBA, was traded to the Lakers in February last year.
Similarly, Young spent his entire NBA season with the Hawks until he was traded to the Wizards on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the Hawks are 9th in the Eastern Conference with a disappointing 18-21 record, while the Wizards are 14th in the conference with a 10-26 record.
