Plum, who was eligible for a roughly $1.4 million supermax extension under the new collective bargaining agreement, opted for the discounted deal to provide the Sparks with additional salary cap flexibility.
The move is designed to help the franchise add pieces and build a legitimate title contender around the veteran guard. The Sparks acquired Plum in a three-team trade from the Las Vegas Aces in early 2025, where she had won two championships.
Plum’s return on a team-friendly deal signals a strong commitment to the franchise’s long-term vision as it transitions into a more competitive era. Further roster moves leveraging the freed-up cap space are expected in the coming days of free agency.
Plum is a former Sixth Player of the Year, which she claimed in 2021. She won the All-Star Game MVP in 2022 and claimed All-WNBA first-team selection the same year. She is also an Olympic gold medalist with both the 5-on-5 (2024) and 3x3 (2020) U.S. teams.
