Huge setback to the Dallas Mavericks as star player Luka Doncic will miss out on at least a month's action. Doncic suffered the calf injury on Christmas Day during the match against Minnesota Timberwolves and upon inspection, the grave nature of the injury came about. The details of it are still unknown, states a report by the Associated Press, which reveals that the Mavs' Shooting guard underwent an MRI scan, following which the off time was determined.

The absence will be long enough to rule him out of becoming the MVP of the season and for the other major awards contention. Doncic has already missed eight games in the season, five because of the sprained right wrist. The Slovenian limped to the locker room after the Mavericks called a time-out on Wednesday. The defending Western Conference champion will play a total of 17 games next month, hence it will be a total of 25 no-shows from Luka, disqualifying him from the major awards race. A maximum of 15 absences are permitted. Doncic has so far averaged 28.1 points per game, which includes 8.3 rebounds and 7.8 assists.

The injury happened during his second game back after missing two games albeit left heel contusion. Mavericks, who are currently positioned at 4th in the Western Conference table, are 6-2 without Doncic this NBA season.
