NBA insider Shams Charania says that LeBron James and Bronny James might get to make their potential opening night debut

The National Basketball Association (NBA) fans will have plenty to look forward to in the upcoming season as LeBron James will feature in his 22nd year in the league but eye catchy part is that he will potentially become the first active player to have shared the court with his son, Bronny. On top of it, he is tied with Vince Carter for the most seasons played.

What did NBA insider Shams Charania have to say about the potential father-son opening night appearance?

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has earlier shared his desire to play with his son, Bronny. While talking on the 'Pat McAfee Show', NBA insider Shams Charania spilt the beans on the matter.

"I would expect them to make their debut together. The opening week of the NBA season, possibly opening night from what I'm told," Charania said.

Bronny James was the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA draft and it is highly unlikely that he will be the starting point guard for the LA Lakers. D'Angelo Russell will be the team's starting point guard and in his absence, Gabe Vincent will serve as his backup.

It is also expected that Bronny will feature in both the main roster and the Lakers G-League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers. However, the G-League will start from 27th December and there's no point in making him sit for that long a period. Instead, he should be given a run to hone his skills and develop more as a player.

It's a lot of excitement: LeBron James on playing with his son in the upcoming season

Fans caught the first glimpse of the father-son duo at the team's media day. It was also the first time both were donning the yellow-purple jersey together. Apart from that, the media got the opportunity to ask them questions about playing together.

One of the media members asked LeBron how excited he is to play in the upcoming season and he said, "It's a lot of excitement. Just pure joy, to be honest, to be able to come to work everyday and put in the work, hard work with your son everyday and be able to see him continue to grow. We push each other, he pushes me, I push him. We push our teammates and vice versa so it's a very joyous moment not only for myself but also for our family."

LeBron James and Bronny James are not the first father-son duo in NBA history but they can potentially become the first ones to share the court as active players. Before this duo, some fathers have had the opportunity in the past to coach their sons.

Austin Rivers had the opportunity to play for his dad, Doc Rivers while playing for LA Clippers. The other father-son duo currently in the NBA is Rick Brunson (the assistant coach for the New York Knicks) and his son, the star point guard for the team, Jalen Brunson.
