The Dallas Mavericks emerged as the biggest winner in the NBA Draft Lottery. They claimed the No.1 pick and will likely bag the services of the hottest property, Cooper Flagg. It was an ideal day for the San Antonio Spurs also as they jumped up to secure the No.2 pick. With that, the Spurs have garnered a big luxury.

Spurs Can Utilise No.2 Pick to Bring Giannis Antetokounmpo On Board
They can utilise the pick to bring in a top-tier talent to go alongside Victor Wembanyama or could use the impetus as trade bait. Should they take up the latter route, then Milwaukee Bucks' superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo could become the franchise's primary target. Heading into the offseason, Antetokounmpo can become open to the idea of being traded away, and id he decides to exit Milwaukee, then San Antonio can emerge as the likely next destination. In return, the Bucks will get the No.2 pick and hence will have the power to handpick any young prospect after the Mavericks in sequence.
The Spurs could offer the No. 2 pick, along with young talents like Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, and Devin Vassell, as part of a potential Giannis Antetokounmpo trade package.
During the 2024-25 NBA season, Antetokounmpo produced some phenomenal numbers. After playing 67 games in the regular season, he averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game. Adding that kind of firepower alongside Wembanyama would give the Spurs a genuine chance to be an NBA finals contender.
The Spurs' draft lottery luck has boosted their title hopes. While a player like Ausar Thompson (not Ace Bailey) could be a great fit, a blockbuster trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo would be a win-win for both San Antonio and the star himself.
