Golden State Warriors Find Ideal Backup Plan If Kevin Durant Turns Down Deal

While the Golden State Warriors are pushing hard to acquire the services of Durant, they apparently have a backup plan ready as well if the trade does not materialize. According to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, Golden State has begun to explore the option of trading for New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram.

With Luka Doncic and LeBron James all in to showcase unprecedented domination while playing together for the Lakers and De'Aaron Fox teaming up with Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio, it is now up to the Warriors to find a competent partner in crime for Steph Curry. And while they are trying to zero in on Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler also comes as an available option but if no agreement transpires with either of them then Brandon Ingram comes as an appealing choice and an ideal backup option.

As NBA insider Tristi Rodriguez of NBC Sports explains, “If those pursuits fall short, the Warriors seem to have a backup plan.” The Golden State Warriors' interest in Brandon Ingram stems from his impressive play despite a challenging season for the Pelicans. Despite injuries limiting his appearances, Ingram has averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists this season, demonstrating his ability to contribute at a high level.

At 27, Ingram has solidified his place in the league and is touted as a dynamic scorer. He was among the most improved players of 2020 and also has an All-Star accolade with him. Standing at 6 ft 8, Ingram showcases a playing style which people find is identical to Kevin Durant. Hence, he would be the right target for the Warriors if the Durant deal does acquire any ground.
