Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, despite publicly endorsing President Biden in the 2020 election, took to social media to offer a congratulatory message to Donald Trump following his 2024 election victory. Kerr expressed hope for Trump's success as the new president, acknowledging that while he may not agree with many of Trump's policies, he believed it was important to respect the democratic process and the will of the American people. Kerr also highlighted his own privileged position in society, noting how complex the world has become and how fortunate he is in his personal life.

However, Kerr's comments took a sharp and sarcastic turn, drawing backlash on social media.

"I’m just thankful that this time there was no voter fraud. Last time, all those illegal immigrants who crossed the border, raped and murdered people, and voted six times, it was unfortunate. But fortunately, this time everything was clean. It's fantastic that all the elections were really valid except the last one, four years ago," Kerr sarcastically remarked during a press conference before a Warriors game against the Boston Celtics.

Kerr, who has been an outspoken critic of Trump in the past, made clear his belief in democracy and expressed that he hoped Trump could be successful for the country’s sake.

“I believe in democracy. The American people have spoken, and they voted for Trump. I want him to do well over the next four years. I want our country to do well. We live in a complex world. There are so many issues, like wars overseas and a global economy that’s changing everything about what it means for our citizens in their daily lives. I’m very aware that I live in a bubble, and I’m one of the luckiest people on Earth, so I want the best for us, and I hope Trump can achieve that.”

Despite Kerr’s intention to express his hope for the country’s success, his remarks on voter fraud and immigration were met with strong criticism. Kerr’s sarcastic comments, especially regarding the sensitive issue of immigration, have sparked widespread controversy, drawing attention not just to his views on politics but also the tone and language he chose to use.
