The Washington Mystics star player Aaliyah Edwards could be suiting up for her first appearance of the season against the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, May 25th. The 22-year-old forward has missed all the four games the team has played so far due to a back injury but could be back in action for the Mystics' trip to Arizona.
Wil Aaliyah Edwards play against Phoenix Mercury?
According to ESPN.com, the injury report of Washington Mystics suggest that Edward is listed as a probable for the game on Sunday. She won't be starting the game but can come off the bench as the team looks to better their 2-2 record. The Mystics had a bright start to the season as they are seventh in the table. They had two wins against Atlanta Dream and the Connecticut Sun.
But, they suffered back to back losses against the Aces and the Valkyries in the last two games. They will be eager to get back to winning ways. Currently on a four game away stand, the encounter against Mercury will be their last one on the road before taking on Indiana Fever at home on Wednesday.
Aaliyah Edwards sustained her latest injury during the preseason and was expected to be out till June. However, she has been given the green signal by the doctors and is listed as a probable for the first time this season. While she may not be at her full strength, the forward will play for limited time in their upcoming clash against the Mercury.
Despite all the positive news coming from the Mystics' camp, her availability is still uncertain as it would all boil down to how she feels before the clash. Basically, it will be a game time decision which will be taken by the Mystics' coach.
Her return to action is perfectly timed as the Mystics have been navigating through their own injury issues. Shakira Austin and Brittney Skyes suffered injuries during the opening week and will be out for sometime.
Aaliyah Edwards is full of praise for Mystics rookie
The Washington Mystics had the best Draft board this year as they were able to hold on to third, fourth and sixth picks during the 2025 WNBA Draft. They were able to get some big collegiate name which included Sonia Citron, Kiki Iriafen and Georgia Amoore.
While Amoore has been ruled out of the season due to an ACL injury, the former two have been in terrific form, especially Kiki Iriafen. The young forward stepped up when the team needed it the most and even in the absence of Edwards, she has been leading the charge for Mystics.
She is also the only rookie alongside Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark and Satou Sabally to have achieved three consecutive double-doubles and even got praise from Aaliyah Edwards.
Let 'em know, the forward wrote, sharing a post of Iriafen's record on Instagram.
Iriafen and Citron have been key players for the Washington Mystics and were instrumental in both of their victories. The young star has managed to record three double-doubles in four appearances.
