Trump, a longtime Knicks supporter invited by team owner James Dolan, rolled up in a heavily secured motorcade amid a mix of cheers and boos from crowds gathered outside the arena. Video footage shared widely on social media captured the divided reactions from New Yorkers, with some chanting support while others voiced opposition, including visible protest signs.
Security was significantly ramped up for the event. NYPD and Secret Service implemented a near-lockdown around MSG, including TSA-style screening, a strict no-bag policy, and temporary fencing. Outdoor watch parties were canceled, and fans were encouraged to arrive hours early.
Trump’s visit blended high-stakes basketball with presidential-level security and politics, creating an electric and at times tense atmosphere at the historic venue, which is hosting its first NBA Finals game since 1999. Meanwhile, talking about the game, the Knicks lead the series 2-0 after taking both road games in San Antonio.
