Indiana Fever' star Sophie Cunningham has come down heavily on Angel Reese’s recent remarks which led to the latter's suspension. The Indiana Fever guard believes that the Chicago Sky player should have kept her opinion within herself. Reese has got her into some trouble following her recent controversial remarks where she went public bringing the complaints which should have been within the organization. The former LSU Tigers star recently expressed her frustration with the performance of the team and the squad which landed her into a major controversy.
Sophie Cunningham speaks on Angel Reese’s public remarks on team
In her recent “Show Me Something” podcast, Cunningham stated that Reese should have instead kept her remarks in the locker room as the team issues should remain behind closed doors. She said:
“There's just some things that you can't say. I'm a very team-first person. I always put the team before my feelings, and I think that should be a standard. So, you gotta protect your locker room. You can't be saying everything you're feeling because that's not a good look.”
The WNBA guard believes that the players should avoid any public drama as it causes "division" in the locker room. She also stated that anyone who tries to publicly defame the team should face some fine. She said:
“If anyone does that, you should get fined.”
Reese caught herself in a huge trouble as the Sky has now disciplined her for "statements detrimental to the team." This came after her recent comment where she expressed her disappointment towards the team and the players. During an interview with the Chicago Tribune this week, she said:
“I'm not settling for the same s*** we did this year. We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That's a non-negotiable for me.”
Following the outrage, the 23-year-old apologized after her team’s defeat against Connecticut Sun and mentioned that her statement was “taken out of context.” It might be possible that Reese has already played her last game with the team and will be requesting a trade in the offseason.
