It has been reported that Suryakumar Yadav will also undergo hernia surgery in Germany.

The star India batter suffered an injury during the tour of South Africa.

The No.1 ranked T20I batter in the world, Suryakumar Yadav has been in the headlines due to his recent health concerns. Yadav, who captained the Indian cricket team in South Africa for the T20I series, is now facing an unexpected setback due to an ankle injury, causing him to miss the upcoming T20 series against Afghanistan. It has been reported that Yadav will also undergo hernia surgery in Germany, further impacting his availability for the domestic season and the early matches of the IPL.

According to a report in Times of India, Yadav has been diagnosed with a sports hernia. He is presently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and is set to travel to Munich, Germany, in the next few days for treatment. This development means Yadav won't be playing for Mumbai in this year's Ranji Trophy and will also miss the initial matches for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The situation with Yadav bears similarity to that of star Indian wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul, who also suffered from a sports hernia in mid-2022. Rahul underwent surgery in Germany in July last year and was away from cricket for several months following the IPL. With the T20 World Cup scheduled for June 2024, Yadav will require ample time for recovery, which could potentially create some uncertainty regarding the team selection for the World Cup.

Sports hernias typically involve a strain or tear in a muscle, ligament, or tendon. They can occur in the lower abdomen and are more common among athletes, particularly those involved in sports like football, wrestling, or ice hockey. The injury is also connected to the groin area.

Yadav sustained this injury during the third and final T20I match against South Africa in Johannesburg. As a result of this injury, he has not been included in the squad for the three-match T20 series against Afghanistan. This development is a significant blow to Yadav and the Indian team, considering his crucial role and impact in the shortest format of the game.
