Story Highlights:

England lost their fourth Test on Australia tour.

Australia continued their dominance in the ongoing WTC cycle.

Australia won the Sydney Test by five wickets on Day 5 and wrapped up the Ashes 2025-26 4-1 to maintain their dominance in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27. The WTC 2023 winners have faced just one defeat from eight Tests so far.

“It was nice to finish on a high note and we know the importance of every Test match in terms of WTC. It was a good game of Test cricket and it was a well-earned victory. It was a great wicket out there, it had a bit of everything,” Australia skipper Steve Smith said in the post-match presentation.

They are only ahead of Bangladesh and West Indies on the points table. Their next Test series is at home against New Zealand in June 2026.

No changes in next two months

As the focus shifts to the T20 World Cup 2026, there will be no further changes to the table until Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh. They are scheduled to play a two-Test series against Bangladesh.

Both Pakistan and Bangladesh have played two Tests each but the latter are yet to open their win account. West Indies are the only other side who are yet to win a Test in this cycle. The Roston Chase-led side have lost seven out of eight Tests whereas one ended in a draw.
