Jaker Ali shared his take on Bangladesh getting eliminated from Asia Cup

Bangladesh recorded an 11-run defeat against Pakistan in Asia Cup

Bangladesh captain Jaker Ali remarked that it was the batting department that let the side down during the Asia Cup. This statement came after the Tigers got eliminated from the tournament with their 11-run defeat to Pakistan on Thursday. The Bangladesh batters failed to chase down the target of 136 and got restricted to 124/9 in their 20 overs. Following the match, Jaker remarked that their poor batting went on to cost them in the last two matches.

"As a batting unit, last two matches, we lose. As a bowling unit, we do very good work, the boys are doing really well. Yesterday also, the batting (cost us the match) and today as well," Jaker said after the match as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Notably, Jaker took up the leadership duties from Litton Das mid-way through the tournament. This was due to a rib injury that the latter picked up ahead of their Super 4 match against India. The brand new experience didn't turn out to be a success for Jaker as the side lost both of their matches under his captaincy and got knocked out from the competition. Following the defeat to Pakistan, he stated that his brief stint as captain was a 'bit tough.'

"Bit tough, but I tried to take those chances and take my game, and try to adjust to the captaincy and enjoy it," Jaker stated.

Bangladesh's average Asia Cup campaign

Meanwhile, the Asia Cup turned out to be a mixed bag for Bangladesh. Despite the side's promising display in the group stages, things totally fell apart for them once their cap tain got ruled out due to injury. Though they began the Super 4 stage on a positive note and defeated arch-rivals Sri Lanka, they went on to record defeats in their next matches against India and Pakistan respectively. These losses saw their Asia Cup campaign come to an end and they will definitely be disappointed with the way that it concluded.

Bangladesh to clash against Afghanistan

Bangladesh will now be hoping to bounce back from their last two defeats when they face-off against Afghanistan in what will be a white-ball series comprising of three T20Is and ODIs each. The first T20I between the teams will be played on October 2 while the one-day assignment will begin from October 8. After the conclusion of these two series, the Tigers will be hosing West Indies for a white-ball tour that will also be consisting of three T20Is and ODIs each.
