Gambhir wants honesty in the dressing room, commentary box and studio.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir felt proud of Suryakumar Yadav-led India’s comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in T20 Asia Cup 2025 clash on September 14. After the match, Gambhir was asked by former cricketer-turned-commentator Irfan Pathan about how the experience of coaching the Indian team has been for him so far. Gambhir said that he is honest about his work through ups and downs. He expects the same honesty honesty in Indian cricket whether it is in the dressing room or the commentary box.

"I've had my good days and bad days as well. That is what coaching is all about. I knew this when I took up this coaching role. The important thing is to work honestly in that dressing room. We need honesty everywhere if Indian cricket has to move ahead - in the commentary box and studio as well," Gambhir told Sony Sports after the game.

Gambhir also talked about the Test team and how the transition went smoothly despite three senior players — Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin — bidding goodbye to the longest format. He said that backing the players is crucial.

"You only compare oranges with oranges. You don't compare oranges with apples. Many people didn't see the transition in our Test team. But ultimately, I kept backing the players. I entire support staff kept backing the players. Hopefully, we'll keep getting the results in the future as well," Gambhir added.

Gambhir impressed with Team India’s performance vs Pakistan

Earlier, Gambhir lauded Indian spinners and pacer Jasprit Bumrah for restricting Pakistan to a below par total.

"You couldn't have asked for a better performance, especially the way the bowlers bowled. We managed to restrict the opposition to 128 [127]. All the spinners, Jasprit Bumrah, in fact all the bowlers [did really well]. You back your batting line-up to chase 128. The way we started was very important and that is what good teams do. They turn up and keep doing right things day in and day out."

Another India vs Pakistan clash?
