India beat Sri Lanka in a Super Over thriller.

India continued their unbeaten streak in the Asia Cup after registering a thrilling Super Over win in their last Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2025 at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. India and Sri Lanka finished with the same score 02 for five, after 20 overs, leading to a dramatic finish.

In the Super Over, Sri Lanka managed to score just two runs and India chased it down on the first ball of the over to secure their sixth consecutive win of the continental tournament.

Abhishek, Tilak, Samson Power India to 202

After being asked to bat, India failed to get a good start as vice captain Shubman Gill departed early, caught and bowled by Maheesh Theekshana for just 4 runs in the second over. Things got worse when skipper Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed LBW by Wanindu Hasaranga for 12 off 13 balls, continuing his poor run with the bat.

However, Abhishek Sharma stepped up by smashing Sri Lanka bowlers to all over the group that helped India to finish the powerplay in a mammoth 71 for one. He smashed a half-century off just 22 balls, eventually scoring 61 from 31 deliveries, including eight fours and two sixes. Charith Asalanka later dismissed him.

After Abhishek's wicket, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma kept things steady. They built a solid 66-run partnership for the fourth wicket, pushing India past 150 in 15 overs. Samson, who had struggled in previous games, looked in touch this time, scoring 39 off 23 balls with one four and three sixes before getting out.

Hardik was unable to contribute much to the team, and he got out on just two runs. But Tilak Varma (49 not out)* and Axar Patel (21)* finished strong. Axar smashed a six off the final ball to take India past the 200-run mark. This is the first clash of the Asia Cup 2025 in a team has managed to score 200 runs.

Nissanka’s Century and Sri Lanka’s Strong Start

Chasing 203, Sri Lanka got off to a flying start, despite losing Kusal Mendis early to Hardik Pandya, who struck with the fourth ball of the innings.

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera took charge after that. They built a massive 127-run stand for the second wicket, attacking the inexperienced Indian pace attack with ease. In the powerplay, they scored 72 runs, the joint-highest powerplay total of the tournament. Both batters reached their fifties in just 25 balls.

Sri Lanka reached 100 runs by the ninth over, with India on the back foot. Perera eventually fell for 58 off 32 balls, stumped while trying to attack Varun Chakravarthy.

Nissanka Scores Maiden T20I Century, India Fight Back

Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka couldn’t make an impact, scoring just 5 off 9 balls before being caught by Shubman Gill off Kuldeep Yadav. Kamindu Mendis also fell cheaply, dismissed by Arshdeep Singh for 3 runs.

Despite the wickets falling around him, Pathum Nissanka stood tall. He reached his first T20I century in just 53 balls, bringing it up with a six off Arshdeep. He was finally dismissed for 107 in the last over by Harshit Rana.

Brief Scores:

India: 202 for 5 in 20 overs (Abhishek Sharma 61, Tilak Varma 49 not out, Sanju Samson 39; Charith Asalanka 1/18).

Sri Lanka: 202 for 5 in 20 overs (Pathum Nissanka 107, Kusal Perera 58; Kuldeep Yadav 1/31).
