India's T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill is all set to undergo a fitness assessment at the National Cricket Academy's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru right ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, which is set to start from September 9. The 25-year-old star batter has already arrived in Bengaluru, although the exact timing of his fitness tests at the BCCI facility has not yet been confirmed, according to Cricbuzz.
Shubman Gill to undergo fitness test at NCA ahead of Asia Cup
Notably, Gill was sidelined by a viral illness that caused him to miss the Duleep Trophy. He has since resumed light training and has also been appointed vice-captain for India’s T20I squad for the Asia Cup 2025.
"It is not clear when exactly Gill will undergo the fitness tests at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) facility. But presumably it will be over the next few days. It is likely that Gill will fly to the UAE for the Asia Cup directly from Bengaluru," said the Cricbuzz report.
Gill is expected to depart for UAE directly from Bengaluru.
Notably, Indian team is scheduled to assemble in Dubai on September 4 for the Asia Cup 2025. Unlike their usual practice of traveling as a single unit, players will fly separately from their respective home bases and meet in Dubai for their first practice session.
The team management has scheduled the first net session for September 5. While the specific location hasn't been officially confirmed, it's expected to be held at the ICC Academy in Dubai. This is the same venue where the team trained earlier this year during their successful Champions Trophy campaign.
India will kick off their Asia Cup campaign on September 10, 2025, with their first match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Dubai. Following this, they will face Pakistan on September 14 and Oman on September 19.
