Rashid Khan was seen having a few words with umpire Faisal Afridi following the conclusion of Afghanistan's match against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2025. The 26-year-old was visibly frustrated following his team's narrow 8-run defeat against Bangladesh and was arguing with the umpure as they players were walking off the field. Howewver, it is unclear as to what the Afghanistan captain was arguing about.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan's defeated to Bangladesh means that they will now have to defeat Sri Lanka in their final group stage match in order to make it through to the Super 4 stage. The Lankan Lions currently sit at the top of Group A with four points from two matches and a net run-rate of +1.546. On the other hand, Bangladeesh have the same number of points as Charith Asalanka & Co., but have quite an inferior NRR of -0.270 in comparison. The Rashid Khan-led side currently sit on the third place with two points and a NRR of +2.150.
Afghanistan looked to be in control of the match after they had restricted Bangladesh to 154/5 in 20 overs. However, a brilliant bowling display from the Tigers saw Rashid & Co. crumble and get bowled out for 146. Mustafizur Rahman was the star of the show with his bowling figures of 3/28. He was assisted well by the likes of Taskin Ahmed, Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain all of whom picked up two scalps each.
Fopllowing the match, Rashid remarked that his side could have done far better with the bat as they had an achievable target in hand. He added that they will have to learn from their mistakes and will have to make sure that they do not repeat them in the all-important match against Sri Lanka.
Rashid's remarks after the match
"We were in the game until the end. Until I got out, we were there, but we just couldn't finish it up. I think 30 runs in 15 balls nowadays is very achievable, but at that time, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves and couldn't execute our shots well," Rashid said after the match.
"It is a crucial time, especially in the Asia Cup, where you have very few games, and each game is quite important for us. The next game is a big one against Sri Lanka. We need to be well-prepared. We need to learn from our mistakes and be strong mentally, and that's going to be a challenge for all of us," he added.
