India clinched the Asia Cup 2023 title with an ecstatic 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka.

Wasim Akram, the iconic fast bowler, has identified Hardik Pandya as a pivotal figure for India in the forthcoming World Cup. Pandya's commendable performance in the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo has bolstered this belief.

In a match where Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj devastated the Sri Lankan top and middle order, Pandya made significant contributions. The fast bowler dismissed Dunith Wellalage, Pramod Madushan, and Matheesha Pathirana, playing a crucial role in skittling Sri Lanka out for a paltry 50 runs after India opted to field.

Akram, who holds the record for the most wickets for Pakistan in international cricket, also expressed his confidence in the balance and strength of the Indian squad. He believes India stands as one of the favourites to clinch the World Cup title. Additionally, Akram praised Kuldeep Yadav for his exceptional performance, particularly noting his five-wicket haul against Pakistan, which earned him the Player of the Series accolade.

Speaking to Star Sports, Akram remarked, "He (Hardik Pandya) is their main weapon in the upcoming World Cup and India are one of the favourite teams to win it. For starters, they are playing at home and we have seen what they can do with the ball."

He further added, "Kuldeep got wickets as well against the big sides in the Asia Cup. So, it's a complete side. So, well done to the Indian think tank, which has been supporting these boys and making sure that they have the proper squad before the World Cup."

Pandya's prowess wasn't limited to bowling. In the group match against Pakistan at the Pallekele International Stadium, he showcased his batting skills by scoring 87 runs, helping India recover after an early collapse. Throughout the tournament, Pandya accumulated 92 runs, averaging 46, with a strike rate of 85.18. Additionally, with an economy rate of 3.34, he claimed six wickets, making him the most economical Indian bowler in the tournament.
