Australian cricket team will be travelling to Pakistan to play a historic Test series. The three-match Test series will mark Australia’s first series in Pakistan since 1998. The Test series is scheduled to start on March 4, in Rawalpindi.
In a situation like this, Australia batter Travis Head has spoken on his and his team’s preparations for the upcoming Pakistan tour.
Head speaks
"They've got some really good fast bowlers, they've got some really good spinners, so whatever conditions we come up against it's just trying to adapt to that.
“And I think every tour I've been on, that first four or five days we get in camp beforehand is really important to bed down a blueprint of how we're going to go about it. That will be assessing the conditions to see what we're going to come up against, but going in with a clear mind also helps and that means not having any pre-conceived ideas or pre-determined plans,” Head was quoted while talking to cricket.com.au.
Head was an integral part of the Australia team that had decimated England cricket team in the recently-concluded Ashes Test series. Hosts Australia had claimed the series 4-0. In a situation like this, Head will surely want to keep the winning momentum alive but the 28-year-old left-handed batter is fully aware of the challenges his team will have to face in the different conditions.
Upcoming challenges
"Test cricket away from home is where you're truly tested, and having done that in England and finding just how difficult it can be ... it's the way you respond to the challenge of travelling that probably makes you the cricketer you are.
"You look at someone like Smithy (Steve Smith) who goes to India and plays as well as he has anywhere, and then there's players from the past like (ex-Australia pair) Michael Clarke and Matthew Hayden who go on tours and just dominate.
“I'll have a really good, sound game plan, talk to the coaches, talk to the experienced guys who maybe know the conditions a bit more and try and lean into as much knowledge as a I can to prepare myself,” explained Head.
