A massive blunder marred the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 during Australia versus England's clash at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore on February 22, Saturday.
PCB complains ICC of National Anthem mix-up during Aus vs Eng Champions Trophy clash
A bizarre and unexpected incident occurred at the Gaddafi Stadium when both the teams lined up for their respective national anthems. A portion of the Indian national anthem 'Bhaarat Bhaagya Vidhaata' was mistakenly played during the match for approximately two second causing confusion and surprise among those present. However, the blunder was quickly recognised by the personnel responsible for playing the anthems, who promptly stopped the incorrect playback.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken cognizance of the matter and has written a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) demanding an explanation on the massive goof up.The unexpected playing of the Indian national anthem, just as the teams were preparing for the match to commence on Saturday, startled both fans and players. Meanwhile, an ICC source has confirmed that the PCB has lodged a formal complaint, seeking clarification on the cause of this blunder.
"The PCB has made it clear that the ICC needs to offer some explanation as their people are responsible for the (national anthem) playlist of teams in the Champions Trophy. Since India is not playing in Pakistan, it is hard to understand how their anthem was played by mistake from the playlist," the source said, as quoted by The Hindu.
The incident follows a previous complaint from the PCB to the ICC regarding the absence of their name and logo on television screens during India's match against Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20. In response, the ICC acknowledged the error and provided assurances to the PCB that all subsequent matches held in Dubai would correctly display the three-line horizontal logo featuring Pakistan's name.
It all happened ahead of the high-octane clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan which is slated to be played on February 23 at the Dubai International stadium. While Pakistan will be heading into the match with a fear of early ouster from the tournament, having lost their opening match against New Zealand, after beating Bangladesh in their campaign opener India will look to seal their semifinal berth with a win over Mohammad Rizwan's side.
