Pakistan's last league-stage match against Bangladesh was abandoned due to relentless rain

Pakistan's Champions Trophy 2025 campaign was nothing short of embarrassing as they signed off the tournament without winning a single match. Even their last league-match clash against Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi stadium was washed out due to relentless rain. With both Pakistan and Bangladesh already eliminated from the Champions Trophy, the match was a dead rubber in terms of tournament progression. However, Pakistan had hoped to provide their home fans with a consolation win, but the continuous rain prevented any play and the match was abandoned without a bowl being bowled.

Pakistan's winless Champions Trophy campaign

The heavy rainfall saturated the ground, necessitating the use of covers and leading to the formation of puddles. As the weather showed no signs of improvement, the umpires were forced to call off the match nearly two hours after the scheduled start. The toss itself could not take place. Resultantly, both Pakistan and Bangladesh were awarded a shared point.

With this Pakistan clocked an unwanted feat after their winless Champions Trophy campaign. Mohammad Rizwan-led team became the first team in 23 years to exit a 50-over tournament without a single win. Having lost their previous matches against New Zealand and India, Pakistan finished at the bottom of Group A.

How much prize money will Pakistan following their early elimination from Champions Trophy?

Pakistan will get a big chunk of prize money despite being knocked out of the Champions Trophy in the league-stage. The ICC boosted the financial stakes of the Champions Trophy, increasing the prize pool by 53% as the tournament made its return after an eight-year hiatus. The total prize money reached $6.9 million, with the champions set to receive a substantial $2.24 million. The runners-up will be awarded $1.12 million, while each of the losing semifinalists will take home $560,000.

Teams that did not advance to the knockout stage, including Pakistan, will receive $140,000. Moreover, all participating teams are guaranteed a base payment of $125,000. Therefore, the host nation, Pakistan, will ultimately collect $265,000 in total, which is around Rs 2,31,45,497 in INR.

Meanwhile, Pakistan captain was left gutted after their disastrous campaign at the Champions Trophy 2025. After the washed-out match against Bangladesh, Rizwan admitted Pakistan's dismal outing and openly accepted their mistakes which led to their early ouster.

"We wanted to do well and perform well in from of our nation. The expectations are very high. We didn't perform well and it is disappointing for us. [Way forward] You can learn from your mistakes. We have made mistakes in the last few games. Hopefully, we can learn from these. We are next going to New Zealand and hopefully we can perform there and the mistakes that we did against New Zealand here in Pakistan, we can learn from that. And we will do better in New Zealand," Rizwan said after the Pakistan versus Bangladesh's Champions Trophy clash was called off due to persistent rain.

"[Massive injuries] The guy who has been performing from the last few months in Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe… the team was combined and then suddenly when someone is injured, the team will be disturbed. As a captain, you can look forward to that as well. One side you can say that the team is disturbed, but this no excuse. Yes, Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub were injured, but we will learn from this. [Happy with the bench strength] This a very tough question," he added.

"The bench strength in Pakistan… let me see the five teams in the Pakistan Cup. We want improvements in different things. If we want to improve, and for Pakistan to have a high standard, we need awareness, professionalism. We see that in the Champions Cup, but we need more improvement. [How are you holding up?] We are all very disappointed. We are all here for the nation. Pakistan is our priority and the expectation from us is very high. We are upset and we are accepting that we didn't do well. Hopefully, we will do more hard work and comeback," Rizwan concluded.
