He dismissed Tom Latham via an lbw decision, halting the batter's innings at 14 runs and further destabilizing New Zealand's batting lineup. The all-rounder's efficiency was particularly noteworthy. Jadeja concluded his 10-over spell with an exceptionally economical return, conceding only 30 runs. New Zealand's captain won the toss and opted to bat first against India. The opening pair of Will Young and Rachin Ravindra provided a solid foundation, establishing a 57-run partnership. However, Varun Chakravarthy's dismissal of Young for 15 triggered New Zealand's batting collapse. The Indian spin attack, featuring Chakravarthy, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel, bowled with exceptional control, effectively restricting the opposition's scoring opportunities. This collective effort led to a rapid decline, with New Zealand falling from 57/1 to 108/4.

Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips attempted to stabilise the innings, forging a 57-run partnership for the fifth wicket. However, Chakravarthy struck again, dismissing Phillips for 34. Mitchell anchored the innings with a resilient knock of 63, holding firm at one end. Michael Bracewell's aggressive half-century in the closing overs proved crucial, propelling New Zealand to a total of 251/7. This late surge ensured that the Blackcaps surpassed the 250-run mark at the Dubai International Stadium. India's bowling performance was spearheaded by Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav, each claiming two wickets. Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with a wicket apiece.
