As per a report by PTI, chief selector Ajit Agarkar is set to have a conversation regarding Rohit's ODI future after the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand. On the eve of the final, vice-captain Shubman Gill said that there has been no discussion in the dressing room regarding Rohit's retirement but he will take a call after the all-important clash.

"Why is there talk of Rohit Sharma's retirement? Why is this even a question? He won the World Cup just a few months ago. I don't know what the selectors are thinking, but Rohit is playing very well. India is far better than New Zealand. India played in the 2023 World Cup finals, won the 2024 T20 World Cup, and they are still unbeaten in this Champions Trophy. The same team will play," the former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president said in a discussion on March 8.

Ganguly considers India favourites to lift the Champions Trophy as several batters are in good form. He expects a good encounter between the two sides.

"India is the favourite. India is in good form. Everyone is in very good form. Virat Kohli is there, Shubman Gill is there, Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul - everyone is in good shape. It will be a good match. India's bowling lineup is very good. Anyone can win, anyone can lose," Ganguly said.

Rohit on cusp of creating history

If Rohit wins the Champions Trophy, he will become the third Indian captain to do so after MS Dhoni and Ganguly. In the 2002 edition, Ganguly-led shared the trophy with Sri Lanka after the final was washed out due to rain. Rohit will also become the first Indian captain after Dhoni to win the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy.
