Harmanpreet Kaur openly expressed her desire to see more Test in women’s cricket. She admitted that India must take the lead to make it a reality through consistent performances.
After almost nine years, India will play a home Test against England in a one-off match at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on December 14.
India’s last home Test was played against South Africa in November 2014 in Mysore.

Kaur, speaking to the media on the eve of the first Test, said that women’s cricket is improving day by day in India. Many people seem interested in watching the match as we saw in the last T20Is.
“Everyone in the world...they want to play in India. In India, things are changing quickly when it comes to cricket. A lot of people are extending their love and we are also trying to improve. We have an opportunity to take women’s cricket as high as we can”, she said.
After September 2021, India returned to the Test arena, and the 34-year-old captain went on to say that the players want to appear in more long-format matches but the administrators have to make the final call.
“I know, after (playing) white ball cricket it will be a little challenging. The bowling unit has 10-15 days to prepare. They understood how the red ball behaves. As batting and bowling units we have tried to cover up as much as we could”, the captain said.
Kaur recovered from a foot injury sustained during the third T20I against England. She shared her excitement and nervousness about leading the India team in Tests for the first time.
"Butterflies are always there, no matter how much you have played. There is always excitement and nervousness when you go to the ground."
Kaur shared head coach Amol Muzumdar's message with the players, saying, "The best thing he said was, go with your best batting style and don't think about changing it because it is red-ball cricket."
As India make a comeback to Test cricket after a hiatus, Kaur, leading the team, aims to establish a positive tone, implement their game plans against England, and contribute to the overall development of women's Test cricket.
