Umar Gul's nephew, Abbas Afridi, wreaked havoc in the Global T20 Canada thrilling match as he took a handsome hat-trick to help Montreal Tigers gun down Vancouver Knights by one wicket. Afridi's stellar bowling, characterized by exceptional speed and precision, turned the tide of the game in Brampton.
Afridi's extraordinary skill was on full display as he snared a fiery five-wicket haul, giving up just 29 runs in four-over spell. His bowling blitzkrieg, particularly a remarkable hat-trick, left the Knights in awe and unable to muster a significant total.
The Tigers' bowler set the stage for his dominant performance by dismissing Vritiya Aravind early on. Despite a strong partnership between Knights' Mohammad Rizwan and Corsbin Bosch, Afridi's relentless attack kept the pressure on.
Afridi disrupted the Knights' momentum by removing Bosch at a key moment. This significant blow sparked a swift downfall for the Knights, who lost three consecutive wickets, throwing their strategy into chaos.
Rassie van der Dussen, the seasoned and hard-hitting Knights' captain, fell victim to Afridi's precision, departing for a golden duck. Afridi's spot-on delivery led to van der Dussen being declared leg before wicket.
With a hat-trick in sight, Afridi faced Afghanistan's Najibullah Zadran, a formidable left-handed batter. The promising pacer stood up to the challenge, delivering a perfect ball to dismiss Zadran and accomplish an extraordinary hat-trick.
Afridi's onslaught didn't end there. He further unsettled the Knights' batting order by claiming an additional wicket, that of Fabian Allen. With five out of six wickets taken by the Tigers credited to Afridi, his exceptional performance rightly earned him the "Player of the Match" title.
Thanks to Afridi's powerful play, the Montreal Tigers managed to chase down the target in the final over, seizing a nail-biting win with just one wicket to spare.
This was Abbas' second hat-trick in 2023 as he earlier achieved the feat in the PSL 2023 in the match between Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans at Rawalpindi. Multan Sultans pacer Abbas Afridi picked up a sensational five-wicket haul during the high-octane thriller. He picked five wickets for 47 runs, including a hat-trick to attain a rare feat in PSL.
