Former India captain gets massive role in Afghanistan team for World Cup 2023

Former India middle-order batter Ajay Jadeja will be in Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afghanistan's camp for the ICC ODI Men's World Cup 2023 as their mentor.

Ajay Jadeja will mentor the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afghanistan in the World Cup 2023.

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has appointed former Indian captain Ajay Jadeja as their mentor for the ODI World Cup 2023. Jadeja was seen giving batting to Afghan batters ahead of Afghanistan’s second warm-up match against Sri Lanka at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on October 3. 
 

ACB announced Jadeja’s appointment on October 2 with photos of him talking with their premier all-rounder Rashid Khan. 
 

Jadeja’s career
 

The Jamnagar-born batter has represented India in 15 Tests and 196 ODIs. The middle-order batter has scored 5,359 runs from 179 innings at an average of 37.47 including six centuries and 30 half-centuries. He made his last ODI appearance in June 2000.

As a captain, he led India in 13 ODIs. India won eight games out of 13 as Jadeja had a 61.53 win percentage.
 

While Jadeja played just 15 Tests, he had an impressive record in First-Class cricket. He scored 8,100 runs from 111 games at an average of 54 including 20 centuries and 40 half-centuries.
 

Afghanistan’s first match 
 

Afghanistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.
