Australian veteran batter David Warner proved his batting prowess yet again as he shattered legendary Sachin Tendulkar's all-time record in the ODI World Cup opener against India on October 8, Sunday. At the Chepauk stadium in Chennai, Warner became the fastest batter to amass 1000 runs in the ODI World Cup. Notably, Warner achieved this feat in mere 19 innings to bust Sachin Tendulkar-AB de Villiers' earlier joint record of 20 innings.

Warner achieved the milestone during Hardik Pandya's seventh over, executing a straight drive that resulted in a four. Thus far in World Cups, Warner has notched up three half-centuries and four centuries. India's captain, Rohit Sharma, is also vying for the top position. With 978 runs from 17 innings, Rohit is just 22 runs short of overtaking Warner.
However, Warner was sent back to the hut at the score of 41 off 52 by Kuldeep Yadav in the 17th over. Warner attempted to chip the ball over Kuldeep's head but ended up handing an easy-peasy catch to India's ace spinner to leave Australian scoreboard reeling at 74/2.
Earlier, Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first against India at the MA Chidamabaram stadium on Sunday.
India skipper Rohit Sharma, after losing the toss, said,"The conditions are there for the bowlers and the ball will turn as the game goes on, you need to understand what line and lengths to bowl and adjust accordingly. We played a lot of cricket before that, we played two good series before the warm up games, we have covered all bases. Unfortunately he (Shubman Gill) didn't recover in time, we waited till today morning and he couldn't recover. Ishan comes in to replace him, he will open the batting."
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins said," We'll bat first, looks like a good wicket. Sun is out, good opportunity to bat. We are in a good spot, we've played a lot over the last month. Travis Head isn't here, Abbott and Josh Inglis miss out."
