Adidas reveals the Indian cricket team's World Cup jersey, marking a new chapter in their partnership with BCCI. Discover the unique features of this iconic kit!
On Wednesday, 20th September, Adidas pulled the curtains back on the much-anticipated kit that the Indian cricket team will don during the upcoming World Cup.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) embarked on a new journey with Adidas, the sports apparel titan, on May 23, 2023. This multi-year partnership heralded a fresh era for Indian cricket, succeeding the previous kit sponsor, MPL. Before Adidas stepped in, the kit sponsorship baton was passed from MPL to Killer Jeans, a renowned clothing brand.
The collaboration between Adidas and BCCI stands as one of the most monumental in cricket's realm. While the BCCI has remained tight-lipped about the financial intricacies of the deal, insiders have hinted that the five-year agreement is valued at a staggering ₹250 crore. As per the terms, Adidas is slated to shell out ₹65 lakh for every match India participates in, extending up to March 2028.
The newly unveiled World Cup jersey retains the essence of India's current ODI kit but introduces some notable modifications. The iconic white stripes on the shoulders have been replaced with the vibrant tricolour of the Indian flag, infusing a touch of national pride. Additionally, the team's logo will now feature two stars, symbolising India's glorious World Cup victories in 1983 and 2011.
Since adopting the Adidas kit, the Indian cricket team has been on a winning spree. They clinched a series victory in the West Indies and recently added another feather to their cap with their 8th Asia Cup triumph. The final saw India decimating Sri Lanka, securing a win by a whopping 10 wickets, showcasing their dominance in the game.
The Indian team's next challenge is on the horizon, as they gear up for a three-match ODI series against Australia, commencing on September 20.
