Former Pakistan's skipper and star all-rounder Shahid Afridi mourned the passing away of his sister on October 17 amid the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.
Afridi took to X (previously known as Twitter) to share the tragic news of her sister's demise. He revealed that his sister had been fighting a critical illness in a hospital in Karachi. And before Afridi could reach Karachi his sister passed away on Tuesday. Afridi also disclosed the details of her funeral on X.
In a tweet, Afridi wrote, "We surely belong to Allah, and to Him, we shall return. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of our beloved sister's passing. Her funeral prayer (Namaz e Janazah) will be held on October 17, 2023, following the Zuhur prayer at Zakariya Masjid, located on the main 26th street of Khayaban e Ghalib in DHA."
Just a day before his sister's death Shahid put out another post on X to pray for her strong recovery.
“I am travelling back to see you soon my love stay strong. My sister is fighting for her life right now, I request you to make Duas for her health, will mean a lot. May Allah give her speedy recovery and a long healthy life Ya Rabb,” Afridi's post read.
Numerous fans and supporters rallied around Afridi's heartfelt message, extending their prayers for his sister.
Among the empathetic voices, former Pakistan international bowler Sohail Tanveer took to Twitter, saying, "Allah jannat atta farmaye aur apko logon ko sabar dey" (May Allah grant her heaven and grant you and your family patience).
Shahid Afridi is a key figure in Pakistan cricket and had enjoyed an illustrious career in the limited-overs format. He donned the Men in Green jersey for 398 ODIs, 27 Tests, and 99 T20Is, marking his debut in the year 1998.
