Australian star batter David Warner surpassed Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli in the tally of top run-scorers in ODI World Cup history. This achievement came during Warner's impressive 81-run innings against New Zealand during the World Cup match held in Dharamsala on Saturday, October 28.

Warner's innings, comprising 81 runs off 65 balls with four boundaries and five sixes, helped him cross the 1400-run threshold in World Cup matches. He began the match with a total of 1324 runs from his previous 23 World Cup innings. In comparison, Virat Kohli has accumulated 1384 runs in 31 World Cup innings.

With a swift half-century in just 28 balls, Warner leapfrogged Kohli in the ODI World Cup all-time run-scorers list. Currently, only cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, and Kumar Sangakkara have scored more runs than Warner in World Cup tournaments.

In the same match, Warner forged a formidable 175-run partnership with Travis Head, who set a record by scoring the fastest World Cup century on debut. The duo managed to amass 118 runs during the PowerPlay, setting a new high for the most runs scored in the first 10 overs of a World Cup match.

Head's performance was nothing short of spectacular, achieving a half-century in a mere 25 balls and completing his century in 59 balls. However, his outstanding innings came to an end when Glenn Phillips took his wicket. Head's contribution of 109 runs off 67 balls, which included 10 fours and seven sixes, left Australia in a dominant position at 200/2 in 23.2 overs.

The opener, who had missed the first five matches for Australia due to a hand injury, replaced Cameron Green, who was out due to a calf niggle. During the toss, New Zealand's interim captain, Tom Latham, opted to bowl first. The Black Caps made a change in their lineup, bringing in James Neesham in place of Mark Chapman. Meanwhile, Australia welcomed back Travis Head, sidelining Cameron Green for the match.
