The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing the heat after a disastrous show by Babar Azam's brigade in the T20 World Cup 2024. Babar Azam's men crashed out at the group stage, failing to progress despite wins in their final two matches against Canada and Ireland. This latest disappointment comes on the heels of a string of poor performances for Pakistan. They fell short of reaching the Asia Cup final last year, followed by an underwhelming showing in the ODI World Cup where they didn't make it past the league stage. This string of failures led to Babar Azam resigning as captain after the World Cup.
The team's dismal run in the T20 World Cup, particularly the heavy defeats to co-hosts USA and arch-rivals India, has forced the PCB's hand. The board is set to make significant changes to the national selection committee, aiming to identify and address the root causes behind Pakistan's recent struggles.

Despite Babar Azam's reinstatement as captain in April, Pakistan's struggles continued. Their home T20I series against a weakened New Zealand side ended in a draw, followed by a T20I loss in Ireland and a 2-0 defeat against England. These underwhelming results further emphasized the team's inconsistency and heightened the need for improvement.
PCB is facing heavy criticism after the national team's disappointing showing in the T20 World Cup. In response, the PCB is set to revamp the selection committee in hopes of addressing the root causes behind Pakistan's recent struggles. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the PCB is prioritizing streamlining the selection process. This will likely involve reducing the overall number of committee members. Additionally, the PCB is expected to abandon its recent experiment of having a committee without a designated head selector. This seven-member committee was only formed two months ago, highlighting the urgency of the PCB's actions.
The recently formed selection committee, implemented just two months ago, appears to be short-lived. The PCB's initial experiment of having a seven-member committee with equal voting rights, led by former fast bowler Wahab Riaz, seems to be on the chopping block. While Riaz will likely remain a member, he won't be regaining the chief selector position if it's reinstated.
