Team India scored 196/5 in 20 overs against Bangladesh during match 47 of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, on June 22 (Saturday). Hardik Pandya was the highest scorer among the Men in Blue with an unbeaten 50 off just 27 balls. No other batter could even reach the 40-run mark but still played crucial knocks that contributed immensely to the team's score. However, this invited criticism towards the Indian players saying that they threw away their wickets after getting a good start. But veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has come out in defence of the Indian players.
Indian players face criticism for throwing away wickets
Indian batter during the match against Bangladesh got off to a good start but then could not turn them into big knocks. Apart from Hardik, no one could even reach the 40-run mark. This drew a lot of criticism at them saying that the players threw away their wickets which is not a good approach.

Ashwin comes out in defence
Ravichandran Ashwin defended India's approach and told everyone that we are not habitual of it but it is about time that we embrace this style of cricket and especially while batting first. He even said this was great intent from the Indian batters.
“We are not used to an approach where batsmen throw it away after making 30’s 20’s, but it is about time we embrace an approach like this especially while batting first. Top Intent from all the Indian batters so far,” wrote Ashwin from his official ‘X’ account formerly known as Twitter.
