Rohit on cusp of breaking Rahul Dravid's record

This match holds significance for Rohit Sharma as he chases a personal milestone. Currently tied with legendary batsman Rahul Dravid for third place on the list of Indian batsmen with the most centuries (48), Rohit has the opportunity to surpass Dravid with a century against Canada or in any of the upcoming Super 8 matches.

 

Rohit Sharma made his debut for India in 2007, boasting 12 centuries in Tests, 31 in ODIs, and 5 in T20Is. Glenn Maxwell is the only other batsman to have achieved 5 centuries in T20Is.

Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the most centuries in international cricket with a total of 100 centuries, including 51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs.

He is surpassed by Virat Kohli, who has amassed 80 centuries so far. The former Indian captain has an impressive 50 centuries in ODIs, 29 in Tests, and one in T20Is. Kohli is notable for being the only batsman to reach 50 ODI centuries. Following these Indian legends is Rohit Sharma.

 

In the world of cricket, Ricky Ponting holds the impressive record of scoring the third most centuries in international matches. He achieved this feat across a long career, amassing 71 centuries in a staggering 560 matches. Following closely behind are Kumar Sangakkara and Jacques Kallis, who secured the second and fourth positions respectively, with 63 and 62 centuries each.

Now, switching gears to the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, India have emerged as the first team from Group A to advance to the Super 8 stage. Their journey began with a dominant victory against Ireland, chasing down a modest target of 97 runs in just 12.2 overs. India continued their winning streak on June 9th, defeating Pakistan in a thrilling match that went down to the wire. Their bowlers displayed exceptional skills, successfully defending a low score of 120 runs. Their qualification for the Super 8 wasn't without challenges. Against the USA, India faced a tough pitch and a determined opponent who had the upper hand at one point. However, a remarkable performance by Suryakumar Yadav secured the win, allowing India to chase down a target of 111 runs.
