Stephen Fleming backs Shivam Dube to be India's impactful player in T20 World Cup 2024.

Dube has been thrashing spinners all around the park in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) explosive batter Shivam Dube earned a spot in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad ahead of Rinku Singh. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming feels there is more to Dube that meets the eye and he will be an impactful player in the West Indies and the USA.

"He is a lot more complete in terms of what he is trying to do, understanding his game, and that comes from experience," Fleming said on the eve of CSK’s clash against Punjab Kings at their homeground.

"We have worked hard on areas he wasn't so strong, but also continuing to develop his strength. So, if that form continues, he is going to be an impactful player for India (at the World Cup)."

Dube has been in phenomenal form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with 350 runs from nine games including three half-centuries. His strike rate of 172.41 and ability to attack spinners have been the major talking points.

"He has been fantastic. He has proven this year that there is a lot more to him than just playing spin (better)," said the 51-year-old.

In an interview posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Dube revealed that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma told him that he will get to bat and bowl in the home T20I series against Afghanistan. He scored two half-centuries in the three-T20I series.

"There are a lot. I cannot sleep thinking about it. When I came for the Afghanistan series, Rohit bhai told me 'bowling bhi daalega, batting bhi milega tere ko (You'll bowl and get to bat as well). You just have to show what you are capable of. So that is what I was focusing of because if the captain tells you that they want to see you perform, it motivates you. When I was playing, all I was thinking about was how I could perform better and help my team," Dube said.

The 30-year-old has scored 276 runs from 14 T20I innings at an average of 39.42 including three half-centuries. His strike rate is 145.26.
