India's participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is not yet confirmed.

There is a big question mark over whether the Indian team will travel to Pakistan for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy 2025. With nearly a year to go into the tournament, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah did not confirm India’s participation in the mega tournament as it is subject to the government’s decision.

“How can I decide that? ICC will decide. Whatever the government decides, things will happen accordingly,” Shah told the reporters on the sidelines of the ceremony to name Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot after former board secretary Niranjan Shah.

The last time India toured Pakistan was in 2006 for a bilateral series. However, the last time Pakistan toured India for a bilateral series was in 2012-13.

Due to political tensions between the two neighbouring countries, the two teams have not engaged in a Test match since February 2006. It is likely to remain the same until the two teams meet in the World Test Championship (WTC) final or the bilateral ties resume.

Meanwhile, the two teams have locked horns in the ICC Champions Trophy and World Cup events. Most recently, the Babar Azam-led side came to India for World Cup 2023 where they could not reach the semifinal stage.

Shah confirms India’s skipper for World Cup

A few months ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies, Shah confirmed Rohit Sharma as India’s T20I captain for the mega event. Hardik Pandya who led India after T20 World Cup 2022 before getting injured has been named as his deputy.

"Rohit was captaining (in the past in other formats) and he came back for the Afghanistan series, which means we were going to let him continue forward," Shah said.

He also clarified the reason behind going back to Rohit as T20I captain as he said, “Hardik Pandya will be India's vice-captain in the T20 World Cup 2024. We all saw how Hardik got injured in ODI World Cup 2023, so we were thinking about who to hand over the captaincy role to."
