Getting life insurance, car insurance, medical insurance or even getting your most priced materialistic thing insured is a common phenomenon but have you ever heard of getting a specific part of your body insured? Well, as weird as it may sound but when your bread and butter depends on a certain body part you may want to be safe about it. Julia Roberts one of the most notable names insured her smile for $30 million back in the day. Well if your smile can win millions of hearts you would want to insure such a priced possession. Getting back to the sports -  Top most athletes in the world have got their legs, hands or even stomach insured. Yes you heard that right, people earn to feed themselves but when your source of income depends on eating you may want to insure your ‘stomach.’ The man who holds eight separate Guinness World Records for the eating of hotdogs, Twinkies, meatballs, tacos, hamburgers, ice cream, pasta and pizza, Takeru Kobayashi is rumoured to have had his stomach insured for a whopping $100,000. We are just easing you in terms of numbers and the figures you will encounter in the list would blow your mind away.

While it would be evident that the highest in terms of the amount would compromise on footballers considering they do all the running but we won’t be ranking them in terms of the figures instead let’s look at different sports that have insured their different body parts. Below is a list of some of the notable names in different sports to have insured some of the most unusual risks.

Virat Kohli

It wouldn’t be fair to not include the former Indian captain in this list.  While Virat Kohli should insure his cover drive considering that’s quite important to not just him but to the cricketing world but instead he went on to ensure his beard. Yes! His Beard. The beard may get grey but the insurance would always keep it hay way. The former Indian captain has also signed a piece of paper indicating that his beard has been insured. Kohli will probably be India’s first sportsperson to have a body part insured. And that trendsetting beard that has everyone’s heart would surely be the priority for King Kohli.

Merv Hughes

For those who have followed cricket in the 80s would know the flamboyant moustache of Merv Hughes. The former Aussie cricketer defined that Aussie beard. Although his cricketing instincts made him more famous but insuring those moustaches for $370,000 is something only he could do.

Leo Messi
Now let’s talk about the number 10. If you are wondering if he is 10th on the list then you are absolutely wrong. If the amount is considered he would be top on the list but the Argentine who dons the number 10 jersey for Argentina has insured his legs for 750 million dollars. The world domination may not be on his fingertip but surely on his ‘legs.’

David Beckham

The flamboyant Becksy is another footballer on this list! David Beckham was once on top of this list because of his whooping 100 million dollar amount. He ruled this list for quite some time and like other trendsetting things he has done so far he was one of the initial players to have insured his body part. The former Manchester United no. 7 has insured his legs and as the famous saying goes - ‘nobody can bend it like Beckham.’ He had to insure those priced legs and a pricy amount. It’s not just his legs that made him famous but his style statements surely have. That face and style was so dominant that he even overshadowed Prince Harry, the dukes of Sussex at his own wedding. But if you are David Beckham you can do that. That face has also been insured by David Beckham for a price of 77 million dollars.

Mark McGwire

One of the most famous names in MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL insured his ankle for 12 million dollars back in 1998 when he was outplaying literally everyone. You can win a game by the finest of margins but insuring such a fine and specific part could only be done by Mark. That’s like hitting a home run every time from a specific part. Right Marky?

IKER CASILLAS

‘Ye hath mujhe de de thakoor’ has ruled the Bollywood industry for quite some time now. But if you hear about the insurance amount of IKER CASILLAS you would be intrigued to say the same to the former Spanish captain. He has insured his hands for 12 million dollars. The amount may seem quite high but if you have seen him save those goals time and again, it won’t look that hefty. The goalkeeper was the major difference between Spain and Netherlands back in 2010 and those hands really made the difference.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Any sporting list is incomplete without mentioning the 2 greats of the game. And if there is Messi, Ronaldo would be there too. Be it goal-scoring, playmaking or leaving a footprint you would find Messi and Ronaldo on the list. Talking about feet, Ronaldo too has insured his legs for 90 million dollars. Considering the amounts he was signed for back in the day, 90 million for a body part is quite considerate. His dribbling surely deserves such a hefty amount.

Venus Williams

What’s the most important body part for a tennis player? Well, you guessed that right - wrist. The Williams sister ruled the tennis world back in the day but it was Venus who rose to fame first. Those forehand and backhand shots were pleasing to the eyes and if you have to keep them going you are bound to insure those wrists. Venus said why not? And she did it for a price of 12 million dollars.

Fernando Alonso

How often do you wish someone luck? Or how often do you give heads-up to someone through your thumb? It's a regular occurrence in formula 1 where the driver uses it as a sign to ensure everything's fine. And not to forget, driving without a thumb is a difficult task. Thumb is one of the most essential part of the body and if you ask Eklavya about it, he would agree too. But have you ever wondered if it could be insured for 10 million euros? The astonishing price is a reality in Fernando Alonso's case. The Double World Champion, Alpine-Renault driver is another crazy addition to this list.
