Former India captain MS Dhoni has said that he won’t be charging a single penny for his mentorship role during the upcoming T20 World Cup. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has revealed that Dhoni has turned down the offer to take money for his role. He added that BCCI is grateful for Dhoni's gesture.
With the announcement of squad for the T20 World Cup previous month, BCCI surprised everyone by revealing the World Cup-winning captain will join the squad after the completion of ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
"MS Dhoni is not charging any honorarium for his services as the mentor of Indian team for the T20 World Cup," Shah told ANI.
Ahead of the mega event, BCCI can still make a few changes to the squad as the last date of submission to ICC is October 15 for Super 12s. They are still waiting for the updates on Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy to decide the final squad.
Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be playing in the final of IPL 2021 on October 15 after defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) in first qualifier. CSK will now take on the winners of second qualifier between Rishabh Pant-led DC and Kolkata Knight Riders.
