South Africa's Shabnim Ismail defended nine runs off the final over against Pakistan in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup to secure a six-run victory.


Pakistan team played three matches in the ongoing World Cup but they are yet to win their first match of this prestigious tournament and with this defeat against South Africa they have now stretched their losing streak to 17 matches in World Cup.


223 runs

In the match, batting first, the South Africa team had registered a total of 223 runs losing 9 wickets in 50 overs.


South Africa’s opening batter Laura Wolvaardt played a terrific innings of 75 runs off 91 balls as her innings was comprised of 10 boundaries. Skipper Luus on the other hand, supported Wolvaardt by scoring 62 runs off 137 deliveries. Later, Chloe Tryon (31 runs off 38 balls) and wicketkeeper Trisha Chettya (31 runs off 26 balls) showed some good batting skills to help their side in reaching a formidable total.


For Pakistan, their bowler Fatima Sana and Ghulam Fatima picked up three wickets each.

In reply, Pakistan batting unit could not get a good start as they lost their first three wickets within a total of 95 runs.


But a solid partnership of 69 runs off 113 balls between Omaima Sohail (65 runs off 104 balls) and Nida Dar (55 runs off 72 deliveries) helped the Pakistan team in avoiding the early danger. But eventually, their terrific batting efforts turned out to be futile as the Pakistan team could reach a total of 217 runs.


Pakistan needed 10 runs to win the match from 6 balls. But they could score just three runs and lost two wickets to concede another defeat in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup.


For South Africa, their bowler Ismail picked up three wickets to help her side in claiming the victory.


Previously, in their first match of the tournament, Pakistan had to suffer 107-run defeat against arch-rivals India. In that match, batting first, Indian team had scored a total of 244 runs losing 7 wickets, in 50 overs.


In reply, Pakistan could reach a paltry total of 137 runs in 43 overs.
