Suryakumar Yadav has joined Rohit Sharma in an elite club of Indian batters

Suryakumar smashed his 150th six in the 1st T20I against Australia

India captain Suryakumar Yadav has achieved yet another milestone in T20Is and he did so by reaching 150 sixes in the format. The 35-year-old took to the crease during the first T20I of the five-match series against Australia after Abhishek Sharma was dismissed by Nathan Ellis in the fourth over. He formed a strong stand with Shubman Gill and took the visitors' innings forward.

Suryakumar first smashed a mammoth six off Josh Hazlewood's bowling in the fifth over before hitting his second maximum of the innings to Nathan Ellis in the 10th over. This six was his 150th in T20Is and saw him join Rohit Sharma as only the second Indian batter to achieve the milestone. Notably, Rohit has a total of 205 sixes under his name in the format, so Suryakumar is still far away from surpassing his tally.

Suryakumar makes gains on all-time list

On the other hand, the two maximums saw Suryakumar surpass both Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell on the all-time list. The India skipper is now the batter with the fifth-most sixes in the history of T20Is and is currently behind the likes of Rohit, Muhammad Waseem (187 sixes), Martin Guptill (173 sixes) and Jos Buttler (172 sixes).

First T20I gets abandoned

Though he had been going through a rough patch in T20Is, Suryakumar looked to be in a great touch against Australia in first T20I. He formed a partnership of 62 runs alongside Shubman Gill and both of them looked set to score big. However, heavy rain ended up stopping play. The weather would eventually go on to have the final say as the match would be called off after the play didn't resume for a long time.

India were left on 97/1 with Gill unbeaten on 37 and Suryakumar unbeaten on 39.  Much like the ODI series, the T20Is also began with an encounter heavily affected by rain. But though there was a result in the one-day opener, the same couldn't be said about the first T20I. Both the teams will now be shifting their focus to the second T20I that will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 31.
