Big takes from Rohit Sharma's press conference after MCG loss

Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team's chances to qualify for the World Test Championship Final have taken a massive hit following the 184-run loss in the fourth Border-Gavaskar Test

Rohit Sharma on Yashasvi Jaiswal's controversial dismissal - "I don't know what to make of it because the technology didn't show anything but with naked eye it seemed like he did touch something. I don't know how the umpires want to use the technology but in all fairness I think he did touch the ball. It's about the technology which we all know is not a 100 per cent. But again we don't really want to look too much into that. It's just that we are more often than not falling on the wrong side of it. It's been happening, so we have been a bit unfortunate."

Rohit Sharma addresses big loss - "I stand where I am standing today. Few results didn't go our way as a captain and batter it is disappointing.. mentally its disturbing. But as of now that is where it is there are things we as a team and I need to look at."

Rohit on dropping Shubman Gill - "Look, I had a chat with him. There's no way when you're leaving someone out, for whatever reason it is, you will have a chat. And the chat with him was clearly he was not dropped. We just wanted to have that extra bit of cushion in the bowling. Hence, we opted for an all-rounder, which shouldn't weaken our batting line-up. Compromising a batter for a bowler was not something that I wanted to do. We wanted to bat as deep as possible and along with that, have the same combination to have a bowling attack which can take 20 wickets. We ended up compromising him unfortunately."

Rohit on Rishabh Pant throwing his wickets - "There hasn't been any discussion about today. Obviously, you know, we lost the game. Everybody is disappointed about how things actually panned out. We certainly didn't think of this result. There is no doubt about that. Look Rishabh Pant, he needs to understand what is required of him. More than any one of us telling him, you know, it's about him understanding and figuring out what is the right way to go about it."

Rohit Sharma on Sydney Test - "Still a game to go. A series to draw. A draw would be nice. We will try as see what we can correct. We just want to not give up and make sure we do everything possible to move momentum towards us. There are times where we are disappointed with ourselves but we did a lot of things well. There is another chance to turn up in Sydney."

Rohit Sharma on Jasprit Bumrah - "There is to be honest (risk of overbowling Bumrah). He has bowled a lot of overs there's no doubt about it. But again, every Test match we play, we keep that in mind, the workloads of all the bowlers in fact. But again, if somebody is in such great form, you want to try and maximise that form how-much-ever you can and that is what we've been trying to do with Bumrah. There comes a time when you need to step back a little bit and give him that little bit of extra breather as well. So we've been very careful. I've been very careful. I talked to him about how he feels and stuff like that. So yeah, those things should be managed carefully, and I'm trying to do that on the field."
