Who is Isa Guha?

After playing cricket professionally for England, Isa Guha started a new career as a commentator. She has participated in two World Cups: one in 2005, which was hosted by South Africa, and another in 2009, which was contested in Australia.

The former England player takes pride in her Indian heritage. Her parents, Barun Guha and Roma Deb came to the UK in the 1970s, who were originally from the vibrant metropolis of Kolkata. She broke down barriers and became the first person of Indian descent to play for England.

Bumrah controversy

She praised Bumrah's effort when commentating on the second day of the third Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia at Gabba. Bumrah's two quick wickets gave India a strong start in the first innings. "well, he's the MVP, isn't he? Most valuable primate, Jasprit Bumrah" Guha was heard asking on-air in a video clip that went viral on social media.

However, the former cricketer apologised for her remark and said "Yesterday in commentary I used a word that can be interpreted in a number of different ways. I'd like to apologise for any offence caused. I set myself really high standards when it comes to empathy and respect of others."

Isa Guha aplogises

"I was trying to frame the enormity of his achievement and I've chosen the wrong word. And for that I am deeply sorry. As someone who is also of south Asian heritage I hope people would recognise there was no other intention or malice there, and I hope this hasn't overshadowed what has been a great Test match so far - and I look forward to seeing how it progresses," said Isa Guha.
