Indian batters toiled hard in the middle at The Gabba as they ran out of options to dismiss Travis Head. The in-form batter did not give Indian bowlers much time to settle and launched a brutal counter-attack in the second session of Day 2 of the third Test. After his 153-run knock put Australia in the driver's seat, Head was asked how he looks to bat against India considering his dominance against them of late.
"I just enjoy what I do, I just want to play well for the team, for the guys in the team and I'm enjoying it. I have played enough against India, I've had a blueprint, a bit nervous to start against spin, I was happy with the way I started against him today (on Jadeja)," Head told the broadcasters after the end of Day 2's play.
Head doesn't want to see too far ahead considering the weather conditions. He feels the new ball will be crucial when India bat on Day 3.
"The new ball will do something throughout the game, can't see too far ahead of the game, hopefully the weather plays up nicely, but the new ball will be crucial," he said.
Head on partnership with Smith
Head shared a 241-run partnership with Steve Smith who ended his century drought. He went on to say that Smith often plays so well that he goes unnoticed.
"I always enjoyed batting with Steve (Smith), when he bats well, I always go unnoticed, I thought he was moving (his feet) very well, it allowed me to be proactive as well. I just enjoy what I do, I just want to play well for the team, for the guys in the team and I'm enjoying it," the southpaw said.
Head already thinking about WTC final
While Head does not want to see too far ahead in the ongoing Test, he has his sight on the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final.
"The top-6 (batting) is setting up nicely, hopeful of doing well in Sri Lanka and getting into the WTC final. Very pleased for Smudge, he has had a lot against him and it's nice to see him get back to his best form," said the 30-year-old.
Head scored 152 runs from 160 balls including 18 fours. He was eventually dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah with the second new ball.
