Jasprit Bumrah has broken R Ashwin's record to become highest-rated Indian bowler in ICC Rankings

Jasprit Bumrah is the highest wicket-taker in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy

India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah scripted history in the newly released ICC Test bowlers' rankings. Bumrah has surpassed recently-retired Ravichandran Ashwin to become the highest-rated Indian Test bowler ever in ICC rankings history. Bumrah's robust show with the ball in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025, where he leads the wicket-taking charts with 30 scalps, has propelled him to this big milestone.

Jasprit Bumrah shatters R Ashwin's record

With a rating of 907 points, Bumrah now shares the 17th position on the all-time list with England spinner Derek Underwood. This elite list is topped by legendary English seamers Sydney Barnes and George Lohmann, while other prominent names like Imran Khan and Muttiah Muralidaran also feature among the top contenders.

Meanwhile, Bumrah is poised to bag another historic feat in the fifth Test against India in Sydney which is slated to start from January 3. With 30 wickets already under his belt, he needs just three more scalps to go past spin legend Harbhajan Singh's record of 32 wickets in a single Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Looking at the his red-hot form in the series, it won't be a big task for Bumrah to clock the rare feat.

Bumrah has been the lone bright spot for India throughout the series, single-handedly shouldering their bowling attack. While India's hope of winning Border-Gavaskar Trophy was quashed in the MCG Test, where they suffered a massive 184-run defeat, they will look to stay afloat in the WTC final scene. Bumrah has time and again proved his bowling prowess in the series by bringing India back in the game, but the lack of support from other players, particularly senior batters like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant, impacted the team's overall performance badly.

Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood surge in ICC Rankings too

Meanwhile, the ICC Test Bowling Rankings saw two of the Australian bowlers' surge. Australia captain Pat Cummins has climbed 15 rating points, and moved to third spot from fourth in the rankings, after his impressive six-wicket haul in the Boxing Day Test. Another Australia bowler who climbed to second spot is Josh Hazlewood.
